{"id":586,"date":"2013-09-13T11:25:37","date_gmt":"2013-09-13T15:25:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/?p=586"},"modified":"2013-09-13T11:25:37","modified_gmt":"2013-09-13T15:25:37","slug":"publick-days-2013-is-almost-here-at-henricus-historical-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/news\/publick-days-2013-is-almost-here-at-henricus-historical-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Publick Days 2013 is almost here at Henricus Historical Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Henricus Historical Park will commemorate its anniversary during Publick Days, a signature annual event which celebrates the establishment of the second successful English settlement in the New World.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_588\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-588\" style=\"width: 233px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/publick.days_.feat_.godspeed.from_.jamestown.settlement.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-588\" alt=\"publick.days.feat.godspeed.from.jamestown.settlement\" src=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/publick.days_.feat_.godspeed.from_.jamestown.settlement-276x300.jpg\" width=\"233\" height=\"285\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-588\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Godspeed from Jamestown Settlement<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Visitors to Henricus will be transported back in time through encounters with more than 100 period-dressed historical interpreters portraying 17th-century life in re-created English and Virginia Indian settlements.<\/p>\n<p>Activities planned for Publick Days include living history re-enactments;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>English and Virginia Indian weapons demonstrations<\/li>\n<li>craftsmen and blacksmiths<\/li>\n<li>17th-century medicinal demonstrations<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Indian and Colonial songs and dance<\/li>\n<li>hands-on educational activities and crafts for families; storytelling<\/li>\n<li>food and craft vendors, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the bluff overlooking the James River, re-enactments will explore the military history of Dutch Gap from 1781 to 1917.<\/p>\n<p>Both days of the event 17th-century ship replica, <em>Godspeed<\/em> from Jamestown Settlement, will be\u00a0docked at Henricus. <em>Godspeed<\/em> is a re-creation of one of three ships which transported America&#8217;s first permanent English colonists to Virginia in 1607. The ship&#8217;s crew will demonstrate Colonial\u00a0maritime skills and examine the historic significance of <em>Godspeed<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 23 and 24, Henricus will offer &#8220;Living History&#8221; group tours of <em>Godspeed<\/em> and the outdoor living history museum. Tours are 2.5 hours in length and $16\/ person. Reservations required by Sept. 22 by calling (804) 318-8797.<\/p>\n<p>A reception will take place for Henricus Foundation Patrons on Sept. 20 to welcome <em>Godspeed<\/em> from Jamestown Settlement. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Publick Days Event will take place on September 21-22 at 10:00am at Henricus Historical Park in Chester, Virginia.
