{"id":65,"date":"2010-09-07T09:58:46","date_gmt":"2010-09-07T13:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/?p=65"},"modified":"2010-09-07T09:58:46","modified_gmt":"2010-09-07T13:58:46","slug":"a-message-from-sir-thomas-dale-097","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/news\/a-message-from-sir-thomas-dale-097\/","title":{"rendered":"A message from Sir Thomas Dale 09\/7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Calling all 17th Century Militia:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/sealion.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-66\" title=\"henricus sealion\" src=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/sealion-300x240.png\" alt=\"The Henricus SeaLion\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a>In keeping with the Militia goal to develop a contingent of period styled watercraft the Henricus Citie Militia has been in talks with the <strong>Sea Lion Project<\/strong> to bring the 63&#8242; <em>Sea Lion<\/em> to Virginia waters to be restored to her former glory (photo in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.henricusmilitia.com\/gallery2\/index.php?level=picture&#038;id=328\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gallery<\/a><\/strong>).   The <em>Sea Lion<\/em> is a replica of a late 16th century English three-masted, square-rigged sailing ship built in the same way ships were built in the 16th century. It was a several year project headed by Ernest E. Cowan of Mayville New York.<\/p>\n<p>I have not seen a prettier ship than the <em>Sea Lion<\/em> and it should be a great attraction during the <strong>Henricus 400th Commemoration<\/strong> and thereafter. The <em>Sea Lion<\/em>, due to arrive within the next few months, will be restored and re-rigged while being interpreted at the Park.  The goal of the <strong>Henricus Militia-Sea Lion Project<\/strong> is to sail the ship once again.
