{"id":697,"date":"2014-05-13T15:19:51","date_gmt":"2014-05-13T19:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/?p=697"},"modified":"2014-05-13T15:19:51","modified_gmt":"2014-05-13T19:19:51","slug":"rva-the-blue-cannon-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/news\/rva-the-blue-cannon-project\/","title":{"rendered":"RVA The Blue Cannon Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Blue Cannon Project by Ron Blackburn and Dennis Strawderman:<a href=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/bluecannon_004.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-701 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/bluecannon_004-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"bluecannon_004\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here are several photos of two replica 17th century falcons on field carriages built by the Henricus Militia Captain shortly before the quadricentennial celebration in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>The cannon barrels were cast by a Richmond area foundry using a 1957 Jamestown Festival barrel to create the mold. The barrels are lined with 1\/4 inch seamless steel tubing for added safety. These cannons have been used in several movies as well as the <a title=\"HBO John Adams Series\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hbo.com\/john-adams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HBO John Adams Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can easily see the difference in the two, since one has just been repaired and painted while the other still shows extensive damage from sitting out in the rain and weather for years on end.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/bluecannon_012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-704\" src=\"http:\/\/henricusmilitia.com\/cm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/bluecannon_012-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"bluecannon_012\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Ron Blackburn\" href=\"http:\/\/www.henricusmilitia.com\/membership.php#ron-blackburn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron Blackburn<\/a>, in true renaissance man fashion, just finished\u00a0 repairing and repainting one of the pieces and is starting on the second cannon this week.\u00a0 The huge wheels on the finished cannon had rotted through in many places from years of exposure to the elements and had to be completely rebuilt.<\/p>\n<p>First, Ron cut out the all the rotten wood then rebuilt the damaged area using resin.
