The April 18th training on interpreting 17th century navigation techniques and equipment to the public, provided by John “Dutch” Collamore, President of the Colonial Seaport Foundation, was excellent. John provided an overview of 17th century navigation skills to twelve Militia members that was both informative and entertaining. John has promised to work with the Henricus Citie Militia in the future and provide input on the Militia River Commerce project.
The most important aspect of reenacting 17th century history with the Henricus Citie Militia is safety. Militia members were included as part of the taskforce developing the Chesterfield County Weapons Safety Plan. Our input was sought to help tailor the Safety Plan to the needs of Henricus Historical Park where the matchlock musket is still king. Weapons safety was also discussed during the April 18th meeting.
Interpreting the History of Henricus is the topic of our next training session and is intended especially for new members (date to be announced).
